Sorry for all the questions, but on a deadline before finalizing proposed equipment list tomorrow and qualifying need for each. Also need to finalize the supply list, which includes grits/polishes.
based on what I have seen here and elsewhere, plus personal advice from those who utilize the specific equipment, my list contains:
GY-ROC MODEL B VIBRAHONE with Piggy Back kit.
How challenging would this unit be for doing final polish on cabs? Any specific recommendations for grit/filler/wash selections?
I have a tentative list, but calling on the experts here.
Initial work on all cabs would be done with a 6" Cab King with the trim saw attachment.
Will be utilizing local finds which are fairly hard, such as jasper, fossils, agates, etc. Also softer ones, like Petoskey Stone, Spec Hematite, Onyx, vontge, natural Sleeping Beauty and Kingman Turquoise and others. hence the need for the piggy back.
Also listing an 8" ALL-U-NEED Flat Lap with grinder/groove attachment, a Lortone TS8-C Stainless Steel Trim Saw and a Covington Engineering Rock Tumbler 1 gallon capacity 15 lbs. Plus related supplies such as polishes/grit. I do not have the room, right now, for an actual slab saw. Do have a water cooled tile saw.
Think I have all other equipment down for setting up a complete, indoor lapidary/metalsmithing business. This includes a drill press, soldering equipment, new Dremel (yes I know, should go with a flex shaft, but price and familiarity are limiting), clamps, speciality pliers, magnifiers, minor water and sink accommodations, work benches, ventilation, Silver/copper supplies, Dop Pot and pickle pot, plus initial, six month supply of grits, polishes, solder, flux, pickle and a little left over for purchasing some rocks.
Do I seem on base with selections?
What am I missing?
Was able to find space requirements/electric/water needs for all equipment and everything will be fine with a little room/electric to spare. helped that there used to be a huge electric water heater in room, which was removed.
Included overhead/advertising costs as well.
Already have over 500 preform cabs, both local and ones I won from rockjunquie. Plus 30 vintage Turquoise complete cabs I made. Some Sterling castings/supplies as well. Lots of small and medium rock inventory. Plus lots of support from area artist friends, local nonprofits, businesses and elected officials.
All I need is some advice on how to best utilize modern equipment as I am used to doing everything by hand, including files and saws. Also had a nap gas mini soldering gun for past projects.
Cannot share anything else about this opportunity I was referred to. Just say the right person saw my past and present work and referred me to a little known funding source, which has money and small business support to give prior to 11/31.
Thank you
