I have been a HUGE fan of Blade Runner since 1982. I read an article about it in Newsweek and couldn't wait for it to come out. I have seen it in the theater I don't know how many times. Me and DH had one of our first dates at the 10th anniversary showing. I love it as much as I love Gone With the Wind. I read the trade paperbacks that came out to continue the stories. I collected all manner of things and have the different versions of the comic retelling. And, now they are coming out with a new one! I have to say... I am loath to go sit in theater for the 2 and half hours of it, but I probably will this weekend. I just wish going to a theater wasn't such torture for me. I'm hoping that the percocet I'll need with make it bearable. I don't think there is a helluva lot to keep me from going. Blade Runner and Gary Numan have been a big part of me life. Going to see Numan again in DC in Dec.
So, are you a fan? Is Deckard human or replicant? I always liked to think NO, but DH and the rest of the world say YES. This new movie sets the record straight.
I'm kinda sorry to see Harrison Ford in it. He has ragged on that masterpiece since 1982. He absolutely hated it and now he's back to make more money off it.
Anyway, can't wait to see it!

Good luck with your trip to the movies, hope it's good enough to make it worth going. Should I be ashamed to have never seen either of the movies you mentioned?

I love me some Roy Batty. Rutger Hauer had his shining moment in cinema history. You know that his scene with the dove was ad libbed?

Yeah, I also just noticed Blade Runner is on tonight at ten. Not for me though. I'm sitting here watching UFC fight night in my Jayne Cobb "You Are Beginning To Damage My Calm" t-shirt and wearing my "Let's Be Bad Guys" pin *L*....Mel

Let us know if they did a good job. I am leery of these follow ups or remakes to old successful movies. Often times the actors/directors feel since they are artists they should "reinterpret" the movie. Usually totally blowing it in my opinion.

Game of Thrones bores me, Serenity, on the other hand... The books are much better than the movies but the author got writer's block or lazy a couple of books ago and they have been coming out slow. The show is now writing it's own version because they are ahead of the author. The character development is a little different than common fantasy stories so it makes a good read.

Just saw the movie. We went to a cinema cafe and had lunch with it. Matinee, Thursday afternoon abt 20 people in there which surprised me. Older crowd. You could tell they were fans by the conversations before the show.
My overall impression is very good. I would have seen it no matter what, but I honestly didn't think I would like it. However, they did a real good job with creating the future Blade Runner world. The themes and tone were spot on, the music was updated Vangelis'y, the effects were great without taking over. There was plenty of story and enough action to keep it moving. There was a nice twist that I didn't expect, too. The acting was good and I even liked Harrison Ford's performance. He did a much better job of it this time. There were a few scenes that an old fan like me could get a little emotional over. Most of the old crew made an appearance except for Rutger Hauer. But, of course he couldn't have. I hope he got a chance to be in a crowd shot or something. I have to say- I was pleasantly surprised. I think if you haven't seen the first one, this one may not have been as satisfying. The actor who plays Morgan in Walking Dead had a small part. I was glad to see him in it because he is one of my favorite new actors.
BTW- Love Game of Thrones, though I don't like a lot of fantasy and Firefly and Serenity ROCK!

I always tell my wife, "I aim to misbehave!" I wear my Serenity Valley Browncoats Tee and make decisions by flipping my Jayne Cobb challenge coin.! And she totally don't get it. I doubt she's ever seen a single episode of Firefly. Extreme sacrilege and un shiny!!! Don't know how I ever hitched up with a gal what don't like sci fi or fantasy shows or books. Yet, she always has her face buried in one if those godawful long haired dude covered stupidass heaving bosom romance novels. WTF is up with that anyway? ....Mel
