That is likely Franciscan formation green chert. I'll let Sabre52 be the real answerer

Yep, green yellow and red chert, often brecciated too, is very common throughout the Franciscan Formation all up and down the Commiefornia coast. Many are called jasper but they are of marine origin so they are chert. One real gemmy green variety from up near Stone Canyon is called Boar Canyon or Hog Canyon Jasper and examples show up on the beaches now and then....Mel

NICE! If you get chance to go to the Monterey/San Luis Obispo area of Highway 1, there's this stunning blue-green chert at a beach called San Carpoforo and an adjoining beach called Ragged Point. But please do be careful of the poison oak and the tides. (if you decide to venture there)

Check out the area 54 thread. It's in Fresno county and had lots of jasper of various sorts including poppy jasper if you are lucky. The thread is in the locations subsection. Also good jasper sites in the Coalinga/Parkfield area which is also close to you. In that section of the interior Coast Range, any stream bed or wash where you can get into gravels beds will have some nice jasper. Nipomo, San Miguel, Paso Robles, Creston area interior coast ranges are good too. I used to hunt several ranches out that way but it's mostly private land. Check out access on any BLM or recreational areas open to collecting too...Mel

I will head over to the locations thread. You are a falconer as well?
