Can anyone describe the procedures they used to replace the Arbor Bearings and/or Arbor on the Lortone Model LST 12? Purchased the Unit in the late 70's or 80's. All indications sound like the bearings need to be replaced.
Would like to know what bearings that are recommended & where to purchase these components? Is is necessary to replace the Arbor & Arbor Bearings together? What disassembly steps to take to remove & reinstall bearings & arbor? Hope this helps as I haven't gotten into any disassembling as yet. Any assistance & all instruction, suggestions & direction would be very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to assist this SC with this matter. Ivan USAF 62-66

I'll attach a scanned image of Lortone's instructions for replacing an arbor and aligning the blade. The same steps are necessary when just changing bearings. You might not be able to tell if you need to replace the arbor until you remove it from the saw. If there are ruts worn into the arbor shaft were the bearings made contact then you'll need to replace the arbor. If there are no ruts then you won't likely need to replace the arbor. The bearings that Lortone now uses on their 12" & 14" saws(unless they've changed brands in the last couple of years) are the JIB brand bearings. I believe JIB's model number UC204-12 bearings are the ones used on Lortone's 12" saw. You can buy them from Lortone, or on ebay, or just do a google search for "JIB UC204-12 bearings" which will pull up multiple suppliers. Larry C.

IV No problem in doing so. Already had the instructions scanned and in my photo files from where others have asked in the past and had a JIB UC204-12 bearing sitting on my desk in front of me. If you or others don't mind me asking? But I'm more than willing to do all my shopping and buying from Our Forum Family when it comes to purchasing supplies and/or equipment. I just not familiar with which of our members that resell or deal with Lapidary equipment or Parts, etc? Probably a listing somewhere on the Forum that can direct me?
With that said ... would I be able to purchase the needed parts from you. Just a thought? Thanks .... Ivan

Just got the shield removed and The bearings Are pillowblock bearings. Not sure if all Lortone bearings are installed the same but these bearings came with a bearing stop on the arbor shaft, one on the right of the rear bearing and one on the left of the front bearing that the bearing is press up against. Looks like the new bearings will press up against this stop to help provide the spacing for the proper blade alignment. Just a thought? Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm mistakened! As this is the first time I've worked on the unit. Thank you! IV

How can I access the info regarding bearing info on the LST-12 lortone? I recently aquired one ofthese older saws (green color). I'm a complete beginner using a saw and trying to learn as much as I can.

When you receive those please let us know if the holes for the mounting bolts are spaced the same as the ones Lortone uses? Larry C.

I got them & they're installed. Perfect match to the mounting holes. Lortone was smart & used standard bearings. Lynn
