Here's another one of Fossilman's crazy ammonite slices. The cab came out great and took a killer polish. I wrapped it in copper.

Beautiful Tela! I like the twists going up and over the bail... it enhances it's beauty.
(curious... How is the upper 2/3rds of the stone captured?)

So you did not set the wraps (squish them with a flat-nosed pliers) to allow the movement... a subtle hug, but enough to firmly entrap the stone. NICE! Thank you!

Probably got my terminology wrong... sorry. I was noting the wraps you did at the lower corners - left and right of the wires bending upward to trap the base. In the tut I followed while learning, the wraps at the base of the stone were "set" by crimping them with a flat nosed pliers... so it was not possible for any of the three wires to move (the remaining wraps were not set, which allowed the outer wires to move as the whole fabrication was moved into place around the stone)

Your design showed me that it was possible to entrap the stone without extending the sides around it so much that it hides the stone's beauty.

Beautiful work rockjunquie! The copper really accents the fossil. I haven't gotten my garage cleaned out enough to resume cabbing, so I haven't done anything with the ones I got from Fossilman. Did you stabilize the material?

Did you stabilize the material? No, they were already done... at least I think they were. I did have to fill a few things. I haven't cabbed a whole lot of them, yet. They are uber soft and somewhat challenging, but the results are worth it. If you use a dop, be careful. I had a few break.

Did you stabilize the material? I stabilize the slabs before I sell them now......It works out better that way....I'll be cutting more, soon enough..
