That's really pretty spiritstone. I love the contrast between the two halves.

That's neat. Is that the Wanong stuff? It looks almost more like the turkish, with the transparent area.

Would of liked to have picked up more then just a slab. I found the Turkish stuff to be more tan in color and less transparent from looking at the ones I have. A little less appealing to me.

Beautiful cab. That setting is fantastic too. Was it set that way to allow light to pass through or just to save $ on silver?

I stole this answer from the Aussielapidaryforum.
Says everything and more than what I could say.
Hi, the correct mineralogical term for this material is chalcedony with dendritic pyrolusite inclusions. These inclusions form the dendrites throughout the rock. Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz (silica) and has many varieties and names. Opalite and agate are certainly among the alternative names. This is very much like the material from around the Kalgoorlie-Norseman district of Western Australia. If you want a marketable name, call it dendritic chalcedony.

Thanks pauls I appreciate the correction of the name. I had opalite at first in the title but thought it just wasnt right and changed it to what you see now.

I certainly still call it Opalite, I've known it as that for 50 years, hard to change habits.
This grey and white stuff is good material, there is every colour under the rainbow there around Norseman Western Australia but most of it is very fractured and hard to get a good stone, the other colour to go for is the opaque yellow, it cuts a decent stone without too many dramas.
