New here, just wanted to share a few carvings, I carved the little fish last year, Congo malachite with mother of pearl and fluorite, Margie made the ribons from rhodonite and Lightning Ridge opal. Attachments:

Wow, those are awesome. I’m happy just tumbling a rock in its natural shape to make it shiny. You’ve taken it to a whole new level.

Stunning! My hands are getting sore just thinking about the careful work those required!

I just came back to look at that fish again. Malachite is the perfect rock for that. Are you going to share your carving method? I don’t see myself getting into carving, but seeing how things are made intrigues me.

Many thanks for the great feedback, some of these can take me 80 hours and more, I carve using a foredom flex shaft also a small air high speed handpiece for smoothing and drilling, all the final smoothing stages are hand finished with carbide or diamond depending on the gem used, I also use oxide pastes like linde A to polish jade and other gems, it is hard on the hands, two more pictures, Coober pedy opal and imperial rhodonite by my wife Margie. Thanks shotgunner, I carved my first piece in 2007, a great hobby that is very addictive, my wife Margie started a few years later.

Wow, I definitely have a long ways to go from the basic bead designs I've done so far, thanks for the inspiration. Is your air tool a dental tool?
