I went on a hike west of Fort Collins, CO and found a few cool rocks. It's an area where I found some tourmalated quartz awhile back so I went out looking for it again. The trail follows metasedimentary precambrian rock and tonalite intrusions, really old stuff. The area had a forest fire back in the 90's and the trees never grew back. Lots of rocks but the area is a mix of forest service and city of Fort Collins park, so you can't collect rocks on that property. All rocks shown below were collected on national forest land, right on the trail pretty much. The tourmalated quartz was sticking up right in the middle of the trail I didn't want anyone to stub their toe on it so I stuck it in my pack :-) This is what some of the stuff in this area looks like, quartz going through this old rock: This is the one in the middle of trail that I rescued: found about half mile away from the last one, one the trail: really pretty amethysty-rose quartzy-hematite mix:
