Found this in Shannon County South Dakota in the Whitewater strata of the badlands. They are spherical and 1/2 to 1 inch. They weathered out in veins and I picked up a couple of dozen.

My first thought was an aragonite cluster. Less common color, but you can find aragonite in the Badlands area. You'll need to check for things like hardness (use a piece that's not so attractive to scratch on some known materials like glass, copper penny, quartz, etc. to determine Mohs hardness).

Well, the crystals are rhombs so calcite/aragonite not terribly far off.
Should scratch with a knife easily
