Picked a selection of various colors and textures. Will saw into about 1 inch slabs and then take the hammer to them. Had a blast self collecting near the Rio Grande at Zapata Tejas

Are you running low on Rio material yet? Only 12 more unopened boxes? I like that one with the vugs, on the lower right.

Laid them out on big out door table so a cobble of each color and/or pattern can be selected. No shortage of color and pattern variations collecting the Rio, it's a rush. Choices are agates, cherts, jaspers, petrifications. Many variations within in those 4 categories. And in most cases no one knows what lies behind the patina till they knock a window off. The beauties are there if no one has windowed them. No matter how many times someone has walked over them. I forgot what that vugged one is called. It is a rarer agate and has a name. Black and white moss with vugs. From a trade with Tony

I've been to drove through Marfa once, around sunset. Didn't do any rock picking though, was too busy looking for aliens and the Marfa lights!
Congrats on opening the rest of your boxes - finally. How long ago was that trip, a couple years? Got another one planned yet? You know the 12 boxes aren't going to last you long.

I have some rocks collected years ago that look very similar to this one. They are from the Rio Grande River, just to the east of the Big Bend Park. They were along the old bridge that went into Old Mexico at La Linda. It had a couple of sections missing years ago, effectively shutting the bridge to traffic. It was my understanding that the rocks were from a mine in Mexico and had been dumped there. If I can find one in my rock garden I will post a picture. Henry

That's zebra agate, and I'm pretty sure you got it from Roy. He may have gotten it from Tony. Not from the Zapata trip.

Had a blast self collecting near the Rio Grande at Zapata Tejas I'm getting an itch that I need to scratch... them agates are the bomb. Blue? Yellow? Red? And so much more. Now I'm wanting to hunt on the Rio Grande... I could imagine not leaving for fear I would be leaving rocks unturned.

That's quite a walk from Kentucky. Roughly 1300 miles. Pack a lunch!

Yes, Zebra agate. Check marks the block next to captbob. Believe it comes from Mexico.

Marfa was a ghost town, Kinda surprised me. More art studios than about any other business. Lots of rocks as far a s eye can see. Mayor may be an alien ? That trip started in Sept 2016. Bob stayed a week and I was forced to stay almost 3 weeks. Sure would like to go again. Sure wish I had a small skiff to scoot along the lake shores. Best to wait till after deer season. It is 20 hours by car. Need to stay a while to recoup costs. ~3 more years of tumbling stock at full bore.

I saw boulders at Q last year. I have a pretty large hunk I got from Tony. He had a drum at Q. catmandewe is the material you had in a drum three years ago from the Indians or the Mexicans? I'd like to know because I have a super nice hunk from you!
