My favorite beer brewery is 2 miles from my house and I end up there a couple of times a week to enjoy some excellent Craft beers. They have very little parking and I frequently park across the street and dodge traffic to get into the Salty Nut brewery. We went early one day and when I left the bar and ran back to the van, I noticed some decent rocks beside the road and quickly grabbed a handful even though the surface was not wonderful. This was a flower bed many decades ago and all that is left of it is these rocks. Some of them are rather large. After running them one week in course grit I could tell that I had some really colorful and translucent rocks. They polished out wonderfully and have become some of my best pieces. Now I grab a huge handful everytime I go over there and my next wife always groans about the extra stop. I have even considered making a special trip over there to get them all. Should only be a 5 gallon bucket full. I have 6 pound barrel full of them rolling in AO 1000 and should have a new batch polished in a couple of weeks . . .

I pick up rocks everywhere I go. I can still remember where half of them came from after they are tumbled and polished.
After looking at the pictures close, I am starting to think these rocks were spilled from a passing vehicle.

Nice tumbles! They turned out the way the bag of landscape river stone that I pick up at Home Depot does. Once you finish all the road kills, grab a bag from HD. I'm just up the road from you in Chattanooga, so it is likely that it will be the same material.

This is from Salty Nut Brewery in Huntsville Alabama They make the best Ciders and have awards to show for it. The apples for the cider are grown 30 miles North in Hazel Green, about 5 miles from Tennessee. On the left is some wonderful Pineapple Cider and on the right is some awesome Pomegranate cider. Here I am in the back Biergarten at the brewery, a very nice shaded area with a stage that I frequently provide sound and lights for. I have picked up some stark white granite rocks from there that are rather soft and rounded out in just 1 week, They may be manufactured. They are rolling in 220 grit right now and I will have them out of polish in about a month. My favorite beer they brew is HAWT Blonde, not too strong and very tasty. They serve it on-tap but recently started canning it, so I carry some home with me everytime. I am a moderator on a Renewable Energy Forum and they make wind power generators there. The most popular turbine they make is a "Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine" (HAWT), so I tell those guys that they are making that beer for them. www.saltynutbrewery.com/index.htmlThis Brewery is one of 5 brewerys on the same road and within 1/4 mile of each other, together they are known as Brewery Row. One of them even brews Liquor.

Most of our local brewpubs don't have anything for this old man to drink. They make IPA for the millennials but no blonde ale, or weissbier, or nut brown ales. I prefer the sweeter less hoppy models. I do love that pubs are now disclosing the IBU so I know is <20ibu I can give it a go. At 16 the hawt blonde would be perfect I think. Thanks again

Wish you were beer, now that's a name. This is rapidly devolving into the beer thread, I'll blame @shotgunner for that... IBU numbers can be decieving. I occasionally get a pint of Red Hook ESB with a 28. I regularly get a 6 pack of DesChutes brewing Obsidian Stout, a 55 according to them. If anything the Obsidian is smoother and less hoppy tasting to me. The current 6 pack in the pantry is a Shiner Bock. It's a 16 IBU sold as american style dark lager, stuff left over from hot weather. 6 generally lasts me 1.5 to 4 weeks, not a major drinker.

Shiner Bock is my "go-to, always good" beer, that and Stella Artois, and Modelo Negra.

Love the rocks. Road collecting is great. Hoping to get to the Anniversary of my fav craft brew haus. All 40 of their taps, usually reserved for a variety of Wisconsin craft beers and about 20 of theirs, will be exclusively theirs. Large windows allow for viewing from the tap room to brewery. There is an adjoining home brew supply store. They also have retail sales by the case or 6 pack. O'so is about 15 miles from home.

Mmmm, Craft Beer! (Oh and pretty rocks too - you are showing remarkable restraint by only picking up a few each time!). I like a good thick belgian type Quad Ale or for a less inebriating version of the same malty flavor, a nice German Dopplebock. Mmmm. Too bad it's only 8:30 am, now I want one!

Gotta love that Alabama quartz! I collected some gravel and polished it up years ago. Awesome polish. Now I need to find some quality craft beers and do it again :-)
