I hope John doesn't mind me posting about his generosity, but I thought he should be given credit for his kindness. In response to one of my "newbie" threads, he offered to send me a flat-rate box of mozarkite for a very low price plus shipping. Instead, he sent a treasure trove of goodies. I am copying here my thank you to him to illustrate how the generosity of the folk on this board is received:
John,
We received the flat-rater yesterday and spent an hour going through all of the goodies!!!
Mozarkite - I can tell this will be beautiful when we get it tumbling. Even when rough you can see interesting colors and designs in the rock.
Brazilian Agate - Kyle immediately says "that is for decoration, not for tumbling!" It is beautiful. For someone not set up for the slabs, what would be the easiest method to polish the face?
West Texas Agate - This looks interesting. I assume like the other Agates and Jaspers I have tried, the design will really come out when tumbled.
Petrified Coral - Kyle said right away "Devil's Toenails!!" The folks who had a festival stand and got us started told the boys the story of how when first found, people didn't know about fossils, and called the coral "Devil's Toenails".
Geodes - These caught my wife's eyes. She loved the color and reflections from the crystals.
You have set us up for a number of months tumbling, and I couldn't be happier. We have some interesting, beautiful stone to work with, from a most generous person. Thanks so much again, John!!
Jeff, Kevin, & Kyle Myers
Again, thank you John and the other old-timers for your advice and generosity to the newbies!!
Jeff
