Impressed with color. auto focus. white balance correction. bit over color compensated, but close. Old Nikon D70 just the opposite and under compensates color, makes rocks look a bit drabber than they really are. Taken with incandescent light from one side and fluorescent light the other side, Heinz 57 light source lol. surprised camera corrected so well. Sure is nice to compose, adjust settings. and adjust lighting on same large screen Higher pixels count makes crops clear. Same photo as above but sections cropped: Some coral tossed in: Magnification mode: Coral up close and personal:

I notice distortion when using the iPad for closeups too.
To my eye, it looks like spherical aberration due to very wide angle lens angle. I'll patiently wait for Randy's reply as well.

What's an iPad? Is it like a small laptop?

Are you using the camera it comes with or an app?

Are you using the camera it comes with or an app? No app Ali, just the camera system it came with. I bought it early this year, supposed to be state of art. S4 Samsung Note don't do em like that iPad. And that is the first time I ever used it as a camera. taken in auto. I only cropped the photos, did no photo shop manipulating so totally user friendly. It even cloud ed the photos over to the Mac sitting close by so they could be transferred them to flickr.

What's an iPad? Is it like a small laptop? It is basically a small lap top but is sorta like operating a large cell phone with a touch screen w/out a phone Bob. It is a good one to carry to other places since it is compact like 10" x 7", 256 memory so no slouch. Would have used it in Texas out in the field to hunt bald spots and gravel using Google Earth, bigger clearer screen than cell phone. I use it out in the fire pit yard for people to see concepts from past photos or buy if they did not bring cash/check. Still learning it.

Geez, that tiny camera has great flexibility considering. I guess the modern receivers are smart. Spherical aberration makes sense, usually it is worse around the edges. I know that the modern high pixel count digital receivers have digital issues. Like noise and the modern digital terms I don't have experience with. example of noise

Gives you a little more options with photos

There's a difference between noise, distortion and loss of detail in magnified image. Noise is like grain in the film photo days. Distortion can be a result of several things, but it seems you are asking about the loss of detail in your magnified picture. That is probably just the limitation of the JPEG original. There was a discussion in your thread about RAW images vs. JPEG. The camera summarizes some of the data for the purpose of keeping the file size down. It isn't obvious until you zoom/crop too far on the image. Not too familiar with the camera in the IPad, but if there is a magnification function, it is like a digital zoom. Basically cropping within the image the camera captures, which has the same limitations as you would see if you zoomed in on your images after capturing them.

The pictures look great to me. I have a samsung galaxy, but I have ever used it for pictures. It probably does well. I am always surprised by the really great pictures new phones take. It just blows me away!

My other digital camera has strengths and limitations being 10 years old. This is a taste of modern digital.

It just blows me away! Some of the close up photos on this forum have blown me away Tela. Got an old cell phone but a new iPad. So the IPad registered as a alternate new camera. I looked at an S8 Galaxy recently and decided funds were not available for such an expense. You must guard that phone with your life.

Garage Rocker I suppose I answered one question by blowing this photo up. I see digital stair steps on the top of the lamp reflection of the magnified version. Blown up version is 270K out to 8" X 10". Too big. Is that defect called digitizing ? I think the iPad is 3000 X 3000, probably could be increased, old Nikon is 1500 X 2000. Looks like this camera either had deeper field or the auto focus is more accurate, probably the depth. I believe the distortion here is digital squares from to much magnification, whatever you call that.

I don't need one, so I don't have one. The tablet is pretty nice, though.

They say the camera's in the new Samsung's are great.

I might have to try my iPad for rock pictures. I have the 10.5 inch iPad Pro, so it has the same camera as the iPhone 7.

Take note of your cameras Native Resolution which represents the maximum capability of the sensor in the camera. Any higher resolution offered in software is just upscaled from the native resolution.
