Hi Kim, This time I used Tin Oxide. It didn't seem to work as good for agates and jaspers as Titanium oxide does . I'm convinced that you should only use Tin oxide for softer rocks. To answer your second question, I got my first rock tumbler about 4 years ago when I was in Lake Tahoe. My first attempt a using it however, was a disaster... It was only after I found this website (3 1/2 years later) that my interest was renewed. I can tell you, if it wasn't for Andy and his dedication for his website, I would have probably just quit. I found this website by accident, in a link, at www.iwantarock.com I bet that if andy asked all these other rock tumbling supply shops (that he advertisements for) to add a link for him, more people would find this place.

I agree James. I had been floundering around just trying everything I could think of to get things to work right. Using that method, I figure I would have gotten some good tumbles by about the year 2025. This site has saved a lot of time and frustration! By the way, I never tire of looking at agates.

James- Do you use a straight 500 grit instead of a Pre-Polish? Would Cerium oxide have been able to do that good a job on that agate, or do you try to stick with titanium oxide on agates? -Banjo I really like the shapes you have there. Did you do any cutting on the stone or did you just 'Bust it up'? OK, I guess thats all I can think of asking for now. Thanks!

Thanks for the feadback guys! ;D John, $7.00 for 5-3/4 lbs of moss agate? Thant's a hell of a deal! I look forward to seeing that polished up. Banjocreek, I use the 500 SC grit as a prepolish. I fact, it is the same thing as a prepolish. As far as polish goes, I think I could have gotten better results with cerium oxide. Especially after seeing Don's outstanding last batch. I still prefer titanium oxide for agates. I've looked at the rocks I finished with titanium oxide through a jewlers loope and they are flawless. No pits at all. Just a clean, mirror-like finish. As far as shaping the stone goes, I just use a cold chisel and a 3 lb hammer. I'm always careful to preserve the best parts though. But somtimes however, I do ruin a good specimen... I wish I had a saw.

hey james is there a reason you didn't use the sisa after the 500 I didn't have any. When I tried to order it, Miners Mall sent me the wrong stuff. So I bought Tripoli instead. Tripoli is a powdered form of clay. It works just as good and it's only $10 for 5 lbs at the rock shed. I'll post a review of it in a week or two. I havn't used it for a while.
