My wife and I will be visiting my nephew in Boise Idaho end of Dec. He says he is checking on places to go Rock Hunting and is checking with Bureau of Interior geologist (my nephew works for government) for places to go while there. He sent me this picture of a rock that needs Ident and any Info on Boise rock hunting will be great. Thanks Duke

the image is too blurry. However the piece on the right appears to be unpolished but with a waxy luster. The one on the left could be polished or it may just be a waxy luster. If they have a waxy luster it could be opal, Agate, some jaspers. have you compared the hardness with known agate. I would expect opal to be a little softer. They could also be wet in which cast ignore all previous.

If it is a chalcedony and not opal, it looks similar to stuff I find around here. I believe i've heard/seen it referred to as whisky or root beer agate. There are inclusions similar to Montana agate, but the material is a darker brown and more semi-translucent.
