I tried looking for information about how much diamond (14000) is used on the 14000 8" disk. It came with a 5 gram syringe but I don't know how much to use, how to apply it and how to use it. I need some guidance.
Thanks

If this is a disk that gets charged with the paste, you just dab small spots around on the disk & rub it around with your finger. This should coat the whole disk. One tube of diamond paste will last a long time. Good luck!

Using a little extender fluid when spreading the paste around with really help.

I make little dabs about the size of a pencil tip, and space them about 1/2 to 3/4 inch apart. I just put them in the middle "lane" of the disc - no need to spread it all over. Smear around with finger. Turn on wheel, spray for a milisecond with automotive silicone lubricant. Polish. You can tell when you need another small squirt of lubricant - the polish starts to kind of gunk up on your stone and get cakey. Hard to explain but you'll notice it.

Hmmm.... sounds like I have been using too much. I put down thin lines from the center to the edge, dividing it like a cake into sections. I then rub it in. Before I do that, I spray down the wheel (mine is felt) with mineral oil. I also wet the stone when I am using the wheel. Works for me, but I am probably wasting paste.
eta I should add that I am talking about the genie spin on disc, but it's essentially the same thing.

But, whatever is on the wheel isn't wasted, unless it's gunking up on your rocks and getting wiped off on papertowels.

Yes, that one. I have a 5 gram tube. How much of that do I use? How long does it last? And once you get it on the felt disk, do you just use Silicon to "charge" it?

And thanks, I'll need the luck!

Does either Mineral Oil or Silicon Spray work the same? Thanks.

I'm pretty excited at this point. I bought the 8" AmeriTool about a year ago and have been apprehensive about using it. I finally decided to give it a go and learn as I use it. I'll most likely have more questions in the future.
Thanks for the valuable help in your responses.

Mineral oil and silicone spray do seem to both work. My cabs get shiny, and so do Tela's. ;-) The one I use is from the automotive section: CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Multi Use Lubricant. This one. It smells nice. But so does mineral oil.

Any type of oil will work. Lighter is better. There is extender fluid that is specifically made for diamond, such as this: www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=97906&catID=110I've never really experimented to find out what the differences are -- whatever works is ok with me! You definitely don't need to use that much diamond paste. Some dots around the disc with some extender fluid to spread it out is good. Recharge when you notice it's not working as quickly as when you started. The more the diamond builds up in the lap after numerous applications will make it so you recharge after longer intervals.
