This Mac plays them both at same time.

That bottom one is a gentle roll. May be good for sensitive material.

After I get some experience with the Lot-O, but before I run obsidian through it, I'm gonna' play around with the amplitude adjustment.

Should be easy to do. Certainly there is a point of diminishing returns where the rocks may not polish well or more likely the abrasive will not break down. The beauty of tumbling is you can start with 500 grit and end up with 14,000. At what point it does not break abrasive I am not sure.

It'll be a while, so who knows what I'll try.
I'll probably start by moving the rod a little at a time while watching the action in the bowl. Put some marks on the base for future reference. In the end, though, I'll likely glue the rod back where it started...why mess with something that seems to work for everyone....

This Mac plays them both at same time. That is one heck of a difference!
I gave up on the Rockette 800. Can't get the rocks to roll right. The only load that worked right was the first one I ran, that is why I thought it was so great. Maybe I will give it another shot this summer when it is out in the garage but I think I will put my efforts into the Viking. With the Viking I can put any size load on it and all I have to do is adjust the off balance weights and it will do what ever I want it to. Love that machine!............................MrP

Nice work jamesp Seems more gentle than low speed with the Mini Sonic. Here's a video of 4 pounds of agates at low speed.

Adding weight may be the key to preventing sharp reversals grumpybill. Hmm...maybe I'll throw a chunk of lead into the barrel with the next load. (Just kidding.) What would happen if I offset the counter weights slightly?

Starting to get an ear for the sound of those rocks reversing at 3000+ cycles. There is a high pitch chatter-rattle that might be the thing to avoid. It is difficult to describe the sound. Man that solenoid sends some vibes, it's flying. Still not sure if a solenoid will heat by adding mass. I believe it may.

The beauty of the Vibrasonic is that it will handle more weight than most would ever want to put on it. The way to damage it is to run too little weight. So it reacts well with adding and it runs quieter since there is less spring travel. I never could get my Vibrasonic to do obsidian and glass until this reconfiguration. In fooling with this Vibrasonic and a home made unit there is a rocking point in those circular hoppers to make the rocks rotate. One thing for sure, if you move the hopper further away or closer when looking at the hopper perpendicular to the cylinder it about has to provoke rock rotation. I could only imagine that Rockette is no different. Can you put more spring hanger holes in the hopper and hang it deeper into the machine looking at the front of the machine. Or hang it more forward towards the front of the machine ? I did find a larger diameter and a bit heaver spring that it seemed to like but the damned things started eating into the hangers. When I put the original back on I felt them and there is almost no movement in the spring itself. It will work fine with the right rock and water mix but I have enough other tumblers that just plain work so why go through the bother. I don't have much for rotaries rolling at this time so I don't need it now............................MrP
