We finally had the time to take in the Gem Shop in Cedarburg WI. I was able to control myself, sorta. The only mistake was bringing my 4 yo grandaughter, maybe not. She got me out well before I was done looking. The backyard was kind of uninviting with fresh snow and cold temps, and a 4 yo. I have aiways felt they were a little too proud of there stuff, but they were very helpful. A brick and mortar store with a half a dozen employees. I did get a nice Montana and a dandy chunk of old stock lace. I was just starting in on the boxes of slabs.
All in all, if you get to the Milwaukee area, you probably should stop in. Unless you are tall, the basement is kind of low. And the head, stop in just to use the head.

I like the gem shop, but you are right on that they are proud of their prices. But customer service, knowledge and some of the high end material are super.

I like ordering online from them I've done it probably three times and I got a good deal each time. I was left with the impression that they did try to send me the best rough material that they could.
I ran into them at the Pow Wow in Quartzsite last year and it was an entirely different story. Their prices were very high comparatively and when I wanted to dicker a little bit they looked at me like I was an alien from outer space - like I obviously didn't know who I was talking to. I left feeling kind of awkward and embarrassed.

They were at the Denver show and had a great selection. A little on the pricy side for some stuff and yet I was able to find good deals also..

So timely. Have a great friend who recently moved to Cedarburg. Told her I would visit soon. Just checked out their website before reading this. I am excited to combine seeing a friend with a quality, somewhat local, rock shop.
