And what I mean by that is the type of foam used, and how the grit “paper/tape” is adhered to it? I had a wheel break down prematurely once and saw what seemed to be stitches (east wind lapidary) holding the grit tape to the foam. .
I have an idea and if anyone has any links or helpful info it would be much appreciated. Thank You!
If I can figure it out I’ll be glad to share the process once it’s said and done

I repaired some wheels with some belts for the expando drums. I just carefully peeled off the old belt then wet the foam, spread some Gorilla glue (polyurethane) over the wheel then slide the new belt on and let it set up. The moisture expands the polyurethane as it sets filling holes in the foam and holding the belt on tight.

At Diamond Pacific they glue a seamless belt (most expensive part of a Nova) over the foam. Then with a paint brush they smear on the diamond in goop (magic goop they worked on for years to get right) in a dust free room. None of the do it yourself or commercial recoats ever "feel" like a real Nova but you can load a lot more diamond on. I had some Chinese Eastwind knockoffs that were just diamond belts glued to a foam lined wheel.

If you wanted to call them they would exchange that wheel for you. They switched to a more environmentally friendly adhesive some time ago and had an employee that was not very motivated for a while. I exchanged a wheel at a show for a customer and when I took it to DP they looked and said there was no glue under the belt. Stuff happens but they are very good at standing by their wheels.
