Hand picked some of the better ones. They are used for media in the vibe. Never went in rotary, just vibe. Great run for newbie. Pet Smart coarse grade: 30% this media and 70% tempered 3/8" table glass:

Jelly Beans is our nickname for them. HA!

I was using broken up sawn slabs of very hard coral Ken. I changed to the high grade hand picked jelly bean quartz and get a thicker slurry quicker for polish. Like 50% jelly bean media and 50% target rocks. No doubt it is softer than the coral, it rough shapes about 2 or 3 times faster than coral in the rotary. Makes sense that it would shed some mud to protect rocks in polish in vibe. I had recently used 25% jelly beans and 25% small rhyolite recently. The rhyolite really added mud to the slurry in the vibe. Like a time release addition of slurry, just quicker than the quartz. It does not take much slurry for a vibe. Media may count in more ways than supplying padding. Tumbling can be totally complicated.

Aquarium gravel can be awesome. Starting to learn that fern. Landscape yards can also be real gold mines. Especially if the owner lets you lay down on the rock pile with magnifiers and steal all the best rocks. Depending on what part of the country you are in you may find some of the finest mini-agates or even jewels in the bulk piles. No elf picked all the fine stones out of those piles when it was screened at the quarry. Especially rock loving elves. (plural = elves ?)

Oh yes! The landscape rock here is full of fossils, agates and jasper. Most are about 2" in size. Some larger. A gold mine for sure. Almost everything is very tumble or cab worthy. some specimens as well. Love it.

I find lots of interesting granite/quartz/feldspar combos in the landscape rocks around here but I'm ready for something different... but not an agate anywhere around here...bummer. I'm reading there's agates and pet wood galore up in the Peace River area in northern Alberta about 11 hours from where I am. I got relatives up there always bugging me to come visit so maybe this coming spring/summer I'll make the trek up there and do some hounding and relatives can house and feed me ...hope they're not reading this...

At the risk of being redundant- I need to add that I, too, immediately thought of jelly beans. They are so pretty and juicy looking.
