I don't think that first one is a jasper either. Looks similar to aventurine.
They have carnelian in Panama?

The top pics look like Quartzite. They appear to have a sugary texture. I love the Agates you have especially pic 5

The agates blew me away. Didn't expect all the banding. There's more I didn't post. Thought they were plain till I held em to the light and then got some surprises. Kicking myself for not buying more.

An old guy near here (now departed) used to sell "Panama Agates". The variety was amazing. I pinned him down finally and he told me while in the Air Force stationed in Panama he collected ship ballast rocks from along the canal. Rocks from all over the world and dumped there. I know, no help to you.

Might need to have this one sliced open. Just really different from the others that were in the bags.

I'm with rmf. The first 4 have a granular surface, and most likely are quartzite. They may well polish, but not with the same gusto that agates or jaspers will. That's an interesting story about offloading ballast rocks. Like alluvial deposits, everything will be jumbled and mixed, but it makes for an exciting search.

I love the agates. They certainly have some wonderful banding as well as crystal formations. What are you going to do with them now?

Hi Ali, Well I would most likely do exactly what you have in mind. Tumble the smaller agates and save the larger ones as specimens. I do some cab work, but most of my rocks, time and effort go into tumbling. I might try and smooth the broken surfaces of one of the banded agates on my flat-lap if they were not too bad, and then tumble them "IF" I could squeeze them through the top of my Loto vibe. No matter what you decide, they will always be wonderful, and maybe time will let you come up with a satisfying project.

Very cool rocks indeed. I had no idea they had agate in Panama. I didn't either-just stumbled across them on Gems by Mail-$27.00 for 10lbs
Kicking myself I didn't buy all of them
Went back and looked and they were all gone ; (
