So heres where you can show off your amazing slab that came from a rock you didn't think was worth cutting. This slab, and the rest that came from the rock will for now on make me do at least 1 cut on every rock i bring back. I thought this was just going to be a white agate / crystal or calcite slop. I couldn't have been more wrong, first ive ever found that i know of Alaskan Rutile in agate, pic does not do justice and i don't dare cab it as i will lose a lot as its an end cut! I will face polish it though!

They do have a tendency to surprise you. A big reason I am enjoying cutting rocks.

Is there a big interest in rocks up there? What town are you from? (If you don't mind me asking) People up here really like rocks... but most dont want to get them.... or they want to find them until they find out what it takes to get them! We have a few rock shops up here but hey mostly sell stuff they get from Tuscon. We tend to value most of our rocks more as they take lots of time and effort to get.. more than the lower 48 in most cases. We literally have to ride a wheeler up to the top of a very steep mountain then head back down for most of the good stuff like where this game from. Im located in Palmer, bout an hour from Anchorage, Takes a day to get to the area where the good rocks are, mostly atv ride 30 miles of hard terrain and 48+- river crossings of the same river... if its not running too fast and high.

Yeah its quite amazing, i lo places that hunters dont go because theres nothing but barren rock a lot of times on the hills. You can get a tast of my adventures on my website: www.alaskanlapidary.com/home/blogStill have to find my other files to re-upload but got most. I should be cleaning some slabs tonight... its in the single didgets so i may start a fire in the rock shed and slab a few more things this weekend, see whats inside.
