All my guys really asked for this Christmas was a kitten. We've had cats around the house, but they've never experienced the goofiness of a kitten. My wife was against the idea, but there isn't much she can do when I go get one. If it were up to her, I'm not sure we would have had the dogs, cats, guinea pigs or hermit crabs. I just think kids should have pets, if they want them. Besides, she's not on the hook for the upkeep or vet visits anyway. This is Ash, our newest little critter.
The boys are tickled at everything he does. I have to get up every 10 minutes to go see what hilarious thing he's doing. Makes it worth it all.
This is our third Christmas pet. Anyone else ever do the live animal under the tree?

My wife was against the idea, but there isn't much she can do when I go get one. How long have you been married??? She wants to make you pay for going against her wishes and hoo boy you'll pay! Kitten is so cute it will grow on her and by the end of the month she will be saying it was her idea to get it. I got a boa constrictor for Christmas when I was 10. Kinda like a kitten minus the warm & cuddly part.

Kinda like a kitten minus the warm & cuddly part. Been married 14 years, but were together 8 before that. I got the ultimatum in that eighth year, "if you haven't asked by the end of the year...". I waited until just after ringing in the New Year to propose. Figured I'd bend, but not give. Set the precedence. She's quit trying to handle me at this point. I'm too stubborn.
We'll call this kitten a compromise also. My youngest has been asking for this all year:
That may just be a deal breaker there. Figure they need their Mom more than that snake. So, we just catch a garter snake and sneak up behind her from time to time instead. Makes her realize how much she loves the warm blooded pets. And yes, she's already taken with the new cat. Cuteness wins.

I grew up with Siamese cats. They can have a real vindictive streak. Moreso than regular cats. I sure hope he likes your wife. Might make the bonding more difficult if he chooses not to like her. ETA: beautiful kitten BTW!!

ETA: beautiful kitten BTW!! I've always had regular old alley cats. This is the first pure bred I've ever tried. It's a Ragdoll, which I never knew much about until I started looking for a Christmas kitten. This is a description from Wikipedia:
The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a distinct colourpoint coat. It is a large and muscular semi-longhair cat with a soft and silky coat. Like all long haired cats, Ragdolls need grooming to ensure their fur does not mat. Developed by American breeder Ann Baker in the 1960s, it is best known for its docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature. The name "Ragdoll" is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up.[1] Particularly popular in both the United Kingdom and the breed's native United States, ragdoll cats often are known as "dog-like cats" or "puppy-like cats" due to behaviors such as their tendency to follow people around, their ease at being physically handled, and their relative lack of aggression toward other pets.
They are also known to carry things in their mouth and play fetch. This one already follows anyone who gets up and leaves the room. They are the second biggest cat breed and he may be heavier than my miniature Aussie by the time he's grown.

I imagine he'll look something like this, when mature.

I am glad your kids like the cat and your Mrs warmed up to it. We have been pet free since the passing of the lab that belonged to my youngest. 'The nest is not empty until their pet is gone.' Its agreeable to us to be pet free. Much easier to go wherever, whenever.

My great uncle had a ranch with a ton of monster cats, some kind of huge black Manx with short tails and about as big as bobcats. My sis and my folks loved them but they always killed all my snakes etc ( would even break into my terrariums) so I did not appreciate their presence. Guess I'm just a dog person. Have always loved the doggies of all sorts. That is one cute little kitten though.....Mel

So cute! My brother had a ragdoll for years and years. She was a wonderful, friendly, sweet, smart pet without the attitudes of the siamese that we had. However, the ragdoll did terrorize all of the dogs in his neighborhood.

Ash is gorgeous! Good decision and you're going to have a ton of fun with her. Did they say she was a blue point? She looks more like a seal to me, with the almost black nose. Ragdolls are more like dogs than cats. Mine wait at the door for me when I get home, do tricks, and right now my boy is sleeping upside down in my lap as I type. They don't have a lot of bad "cat" habits like clawing things and climbing the curtains. I have a regular rescue cat also, and boy is there a huge personality difference!

I went looking online for rag dolls or Maine coon kittens in my area. Guess, I should wait for spring. I miss our little kitten so much. We've had our eye open for another since we lost him. My BIL who does spay and release promised us the pick of the next litter, but all his strays have now been fixed. We'd have to wait for the next one that saunters into his yard. Seeing this gorgeous little fur ball makes me even more impatient.
How old is Ash?
