I had to use 100% small 1/4" media to keep it from jamming. Certainly a mouthful for a Mini Sonic hopper. Maximus... Bought a 10 pound bag of quartz aquarium gravel to obtain the 1/4" quartz pebbles. Noticed that polish time was almost 3 times longer for 1/4" media or delay due to poor rolling action due to lack of room in hopper. Probably the poor action. And polish was not up to snuff. Rock was just too big for hopper. Constipation. A slightly smaller one pound roundish rock with 1/2" media wet shines and has good rolling action in the Mini Sonic. And some slight under cutting at the hematite. Most beautiful stone. Being sent back to toiv0. Billy gave me a box of this fine(heavy) material. Maybe Billy can buff it to higher polish, would not take long. Thanks Billy. You are generous soul. Those faces are things of nightmares.

That one is headed back to your Minnesota Alison. Why is it that all my big red tumbles end up in the hands of Minnesotan's ? Must have lots of silver tongues up there.

I think that turned out fantastic! Was really looking forward to seeing the finished stone. I have some of this Mary Ellen that I want to get started when one of my high speed tumblers opens up. Now I know what to strive for. Running my coarse grinds in the high speed machines and switch over to the regular machines for the latter stages. This place needs a For jamesp Threads Only section. Would make stuff I want to read easier to find! just sayin'

High shines AND matte finishes are both good. Sometimes high shines are the best. Other times, matte is perfect.
That red Mary Ellen is lovely. Whodathunk algae could be so pretty!!

Fantastic job!! That is an AMAZING tumble!! Need to start calling you Dr. Vibe Hmmm, back in the dating years.. I am on a learning mission. Since putting those small hoppers on the Vibrasonic it allowed more flexibility. That 14 pound hopper was fine for quartz gems and that was all. Making some headway on new ways to use this tumbler. New tricks that may need the power it has. Glad you told me about it.

That is one pretty rock Pat. toiv0 sent me several chunks to work with. It is kept in a safe spot. Who would have thought algae could look so good.

Be still my beating heart...... Tela likes Mary Ellen. I believe you have said it is one of your favorites. Bet it makes fine cabs. It is not a soft rock. My grinder was challenged shaping it.

Those cobble beaches would be primary destiny. Members have posted photos of the colors in that clear water. May have to bring a real warm wet suit to get in that water. at temps 25 below zero there is no way. add wind, gracious

The hematite in Mary Ellen does under cut a bit. but it is small speckles and almost unnoticeable. Good idea to trasferì to some slower machine for later stages.
