My local little auction house that i go to ever time they have an auction had a big surprise. This saturday was an estate auction of at rockhound lapidist. I got real excited when i showed up it was already a packed house. The only material i seen that i was interested in was 4 boxes of thunder eggs which looked like some where from New Mexico, and some from Organ. It is a small auction house and it was standing room only. So i could not even attempt photos. The only other piece i seen that was worth bidding was this. I think it is a huge chunk of old stock rooster tail agate. About 30# worth very nice and solid good quality. One of the first things that went up for auction was the eggs they went to high for me 60$-100$ a box.so i sat back and watched and people where going crazy on the bidding. One good deal i seen a guy got a lot-o with extra barrel for 35$. Like every where else the runners know me well . so i asked one of them if they can take this rock up for me because it was the only piece i was there for. So the piece goes up and having lots of doubt i would come away with it. The auction started . The auctioneer starts this nice rock up for bids will some one give me 50$? No answer people where getting up looking at the rock as a runner walked it up and down the isle. So i hollered out a bid. Auction asked do i hear more and nothing going once going twice sold to me. I was like wow. Doing the happy dance in my head. Paid and left with what i went there for. So all that being said does anyone agree that this is indeed rooster tail agate? Please let me know thank you.
Still dirty the pot it is sitting on has a 12" opening.
The other side a little wet.
Back side after a bath.
You can see the sparkle of the quartz coating it has on it in this photo.
Another side of the big chunk.
Thanks for looking alot going on in this rock. This most expensive rock that i have personally bought. I typically do not buy them. Couldn't pass this up. Do you think it is Rooster Tail Agate?
