Show us your trim saw as well. The amount of room and type of tray will affect design.

And for the few that need center cuts on Ammonite's or coconuts, thunder eggs, anything round.
Milk cartoon plus plaster of Paris, on center cuts, think about where blade cut is and plaster block in vise side for large vise point to clap to.
My favorite is too fill a wax coated one gallon milk cartoon / or Sq. thoughts in head ! ( yes their plastics jugs ) Wax coated or oiled wood box. cooking oil. Too release the plaster pure. add 4" of mud plus 4" of 2"-3" ( Size does matter ) using a 24" blade Tracking through the cut. pure more mud rock too the top. let heat / then tell cool.
Then add OLD HighLand-Park 24" saw. too the block.

Not exactly a vise, but I use a collection of shims on my 10" saw. I like it much better than the vise I bought for it.

I actually do make one it is made by machining the parts and there is no welding involved.Itmay be possible to make from wood with a few twinks. I'll try to get a drawing up in the next few days.

You asked for drawings of a home made trim saw vise. I have always thought that the vises that came with these or you could buy were very cheesy so I decided to make one here are a few 3D drawings on the type I made and a couple short vids showing the evolution that it went through overall view side view back view bottom view top view I posted this video showing my original prototype ya'll may get a kick out of this not really practical but the concept was solid. Youtube 1 Youtube 2 A little over a year ago I got interested in machining and picked up a used lathe then a mill and decided to revisit my vise project. After a lot of practice I decided to try to build one for my Rock Rascal trim saw. It so happened that my good friend was getting into lapidary and also had a Rock Rascal and wanted a vise. I offered to make one for him and did but I never made one for myself hum..... So I asked him if he would make a movie for me kind of sucks because he has only used it a few times in the last 2 yrs or so. So here's an operational movie. Youtube

Hmmmm...... This is kinda looking to be enshrined in the DIY section.
Can you give and more details or videos of it working? Is this something you can do for others, like your awesome dop stick? Or, would you prefer to do a pictorial DIY for those that have the machinery to do it?

Didn't think about the DIY area ya move it. Yes and yes I can make them for those who can't or don't have the means etc. I am trying to come up with some methods to make it a "universal" type vise especially for machines that don't have a rock vise like tile saws. PM's are welcome if you would like to know more about the design, improvements, making one yourself or having me make one. I don't have any proprietary claims on this so it's fair game for everyone, you guy's with woodworking skills can probably duplicate it in hard wood. With this design you can scale the size up or down and actually have a mini slab saw the one show will accept up to about a 3.5" x 3.5+/-" X a little less than 3" thick hard materials like agate probably less and actually the length would only be limited by the the bed size of the saw. Slabs can be clamped so that you can make straight parallel cuts or if you have fence and miter attachment angle cuts to maybe 45* may be useful for intarsia or inlay cuts. Slabs can be stacked in order to produce multiple matching cuts. Basically only limited by your imagination bevel cuts are even possible. Well enough waving my hands in the air. Thanks for reading.

I'll have jeannie take pics tonight when I slab her strawberry onyx from Tommy. I get slabs nearly as good as a slab saw, hand fed by using a proper "fence" as in like a table saw fence. Set fence the correct distance from the blade. Take a cheek cut off the stone. Set flat cut solid on the fence and table and feed across the blade. Lather, rinse repeat. Soon you have abusket of slabs and a few tumbles.

Hi Brent, Were you ever able to come up with a DIY vise or fence for your trim saw? I know this is an old RTH post, but thought I'd ask, as I'm trying to devise a fence for my HP 6" trim saw. A vise would be okay too, unless it's too complicated. Thanks, markb
