We, here in St. Pete Fl, have two "rock shows" a year. Not REAL shows like Tucson or Quartzite, but it's Florida, so we take what we can get. *sigh* Went to the opening day this morning of our smaller show. Like in a room half the size of a football field at a civic center a couple towns (10 miles) up the road. As expected, it was lacking. But, I've got pretty high standards - when it comes to rocks. Took enough cash with me to buy a decent used car and had a hard time spending the $138 that I spent! Have I mentioned that Florida SUCKS lately? Picked up a 5" brown jasper sphere for 40 bucks (good deal), and a few chunks of rocks. Sci fi (exotica / porcelain) jasper, (real) Ocean Wave outta Africa, A hunk of palm wood - no location given but guessing Louisiana, and a fairly nice piece of silver lace. Hardly worth taking pictures. *sigh* Spent more at the grocery store on the way home... *SIGH* So, I was wasting the afternoon (rainy day) on eBay and came across a nice piece of Variscite. I like Variscite (Utah), and this is a very unusual specimen. Got it to make me feel better! Good sized piece - 16 x 14 x 8.2 cm Auction pictures - NEVER seen this with red veins before. The locality is Utahlite claim, Utahlite Hill, Lucin, Pilot Range, Box Elder County, Utah. (from the listing) Would have rather had a better show, but it's something at least and I have a good spot in a display case for it.

Very amazing piece. Love the colors and form. Sad to hear the rock show was not that great. By me, there are few rocks shows. Locally a couple per year where people set up cars and trucks with open trunks or tailgates in a parking lot. Sometimes supplement with some folding tables. A few hours away, there are better, indoor shows.

Sweet score!!! That's a really nice looking piece. You don't see those patterns often.

Has anyone seen variscite with this red veining before? Such an unusual piece and a good size for a display piece that I couldn't pass it up.
