Love that first one, going to make a beautiful cab. I was shocked when I cut it. Didnt look like that on the outside. Wasn't a big rock. Got 4 little slabs out of it. Went back into my pile to see if I have more.

The first MN ones look like a conglomerate that may contain fossils. I have found similar. I call them WI reverse pudding stone, due to the dark coloration of the host. Love the red/yellow agate with druzy and oolites. I am addicted to both oolites and druzy. That is a nice piece.

I have one more like it that I'll cut up next time. A better pic of it

Went back into my pile to see if I have more. Rock are often surprising when cut open. I picked up some black andesite from South of here. Just looked like an ugly brown rock from the outside. Only reason I brought some back was I saw the black interior on the chipped surfaces. When I cut ans polished it it looked like you were looking out in to space. So beautiful. Someday I will go back and get more, but it is a ways to go on a dirt road then a long hike to reach the spot.

slabbing is much more rewarding to me than tumbling or cabbing because you see what is inside almost immediately. nice rocks

Sorry i hate to complicate your new love affair of slabbing. Becareful because one day it will break your heart. I myself still new to a lot of all this. When i plugged in my saw for the first time i was hooked on the first cut. Soon i was cutting away slab after slab. And then it happened i cut a piece of petrified palm wood nice size chunk. After i cut it i wish i never did because i will never have that unique one of a kind specimen in this world ever again. coloradocliff helped me realize that. I do know there is nothing like cutting material you find yourself. You have come along way alikat218. Keep at it.

I have a few pieces that I will never cut, just wont bring myself to do it no matter how bad I want to see what is inside. Like my giant agate I found in northern Ca. Sits on my nightstand and even though I've been tempted, I know I'll never find another like it. When I really think about what I love about this hobby, it's the finding the material. I dont think anything beats that and the memories that go with each piece.
