For some time now, most of you guy's have been hearing me speak of the "big" project I've been working on. Well here it is. I started this project way back on January 5th and I must say, it's been a hell of a wait! But it was well worth it. I'm quite satisfied with the results. Not overjoyed, but satisfied. The whole project was a great learning experience and I think I got my time and money's worth.
I ran these stones for a total of 8 weeks in 60/90, ( recharged evey 7 days) 1 week in 120/220, 1 week in 500 and 1 week in titanium oxide polish.
Dispite my previous problems with 500 SC, these actually came out pretty good. I'll admit, they would have came out better if I had used an extra 1000 Alumina grit step, but I've waited long enough. So they'll have to do.
I don't know exactly what all these stones are. I do know however, that they are all either Agates or Jaspers.
This is a picture of the rough I started out with. It's important to note, that not all of these made it to the final cut...
Here are a few pics of the complete batch after polish...
Here are a few closeup's...
I've named this one "Laguna sunset" because of the little laguna agate on the right that looks like a setting sun over the hills of Mexico. If it weren't for that stone I wouldn't have even bothered with this pic; as it's not the best of quality.
These interesting, colorful agates, are actually some type of petrified wood. I actually started these in my 3 lb barrel and transfered them into my 15 lber before 120/220. They probably stayed in 60/90 for about 10 weeks total. The problem is, that they are so darn brittle. They shape up nicely though. If anybody can Identify these, please tell me what they are. I want more...
Here's a closeup...
This is red plume agate. It is probably my favorite stone in the mix. Again, if anyone knows where I can get some, please let me know.
Another closeup.
Here is some moss agate with nice blue inclusions...
...and a closeup.
This is "Rooster tail" agate. Origin unknown...
Closeup view...
Here we have some miscellaneous plume agates. I love the red on if you can't tell. Some of the other ones actually have gold flakes in them. Really cool stuff!
Now it's time for my favorite pic! Don't ask me what kind of agates these are. I don't have a clue. I wish I knew...
Thanks for looking!
