Last summer . . . which, with the cold we've been having seems a long time ago, I dug a cantaloupe sized hunk of quartzite out of the berm along a warehouse parking area. It had an interesting rusty tinge in places. So I brought it home and stuck it in a hole and whacked it with a sledge hammer. I've no finesse whatsoever. I was pleased with the results. Here are a few of the pieces I have in the house. The rest is under the snow in my rock pile. Dry: Wet: I've only tumbled a couple pieces, but am thrilled with the result. These photos are a testimony to my lack of photographic skill as they do not do these pieces justice. Once I can unearth the rest of it, I plan to break it up and tumble it all. Then, in the summer, I'll go digging in that berm again. There are many other quartzite rocks there.
