How long does 1 cup of SiC 30 last in a 7 pound PVC tumbler barrel at 60 RPM 60% full of steel ball 1/2" to 1" with water slurry ? Keep in mind agate is 2.7 and steel is 7.8 in density. So barrel holds 7 pounds of agate and 20 pounds of steel. Steel balls used are in photo below and are mostly 1/2" balls. A) 1 hour B) 24 hours C) 1 week I have been ball milling bulk screened 3/8" SiC into 60 and 220 so I know the answer well.

Surprisingly the SiC 30 is very fine after 1 hour. Probably about 220. and in less than 1 hour. If run like this dry it powders much quicker. The abrasive would break quicker with 3/4 or 1 inch steel balls. Testimony to the effect of denser vibe media too. Any high density fairly hard material in any kind of tumbler has dramatic increase in breaking abrasives.
