I recently came across something that laid out sphere size and weight correlations.
Like a 5" sphere is around 5 pounds but a 6" sphere is around 10 pounds. Huge difference.
One might think that a 5" sphere is merely one inch larger than a 4" sphere, but it is really an amazing difference. What I was reading showed just how much, in mass, an inch difference in diameter makes. Gave weights for spheres of MANY sizes.
Granted, different types of rock may vary some in weight given the same volume, but this was close enough. NOT looking for some mathematical formula.
Can't find what I was reading. Anyone have a clue where I might have seen this?

Interesting, which would explain the doubling in weight. I always looked at at a cu ft box and never understood how 8 gal of water would fit in it. But it will. Volumes are deceiving.

Kind of like the number Zillions which is a lot of turtle tanks if it was a real number.

Instead of increasing with the square when calculating area, the volume increases with the cube. Area = 3.14 X radius X radius A 48 dwarfs a 42, 42 dwarfs a 36, 36 dwarfs a 30 inch fire pit because of the square of the radius.
a sphere's volume is even more effected by radius. 3.14 X 4 x radius X radius X radius, all that divide by 3 describes the volume of a sphere.
