I am dealing with someone for a sfrb of unnamed jaspers. What would be a fair price range? I have paid as little as 10 and as much as 50 before. I think 10 is out of the question. What do y'all think?

What do y'all think? In the end, I probably won't be able to help with a price, but I think more info is needed because there are too many variables, IMHO. Are you the buyer or seller? What do you mean by unnamed? Is it simply a blind purchase? Are you dealing with someone from the board? Is this rough or slabs? Common or rare material? The more you can narrow down may help in getting you better info. Dave

I have seen pictures. Yes, a board member. I'd say common material, but an un-named material. I want both of us to be happy. But, I am awful with coming up with prices.

rockjunquie I would think that any good solid material is worth $3/lb(retail) even if it is just plain old red jasper, (I have no idea how much a sfrb holds) more if it has nice color/pattern. If it is slabbed then cost of slabbing is about $20/lb for slabbing costs.

Jeez, *L* I guess I've got to pay more attention to my slab pricing. Man, I've been selling good Rio Grande agate slabs for $6 per pound. Never really have sat down to calculate actual slabbing costs...Mel

I am not one to be able to judge value too much but I think that I would determine how many cabs could be cut, how much is the cost of material for finished product and your time and creativity then determine the price that you think you can sell it for in a reasonable time frame. Then subtract the costs from the price of the finished product this would give you your value of the raw stone. For example cost of producing $10, price you could sell it for $20, so 10-20=$10 value of stone then divide by 2 therefore max offering price would be $5 /stone that could be produced per slab essentially double the cost of what you pay for the slab.

rockjunquie All rock costs too much. It is rock LOL. I just bought a MFRB for 30 it was sight unseen. I will keep 4 or 5 small slabs and give the rest away. At 6 a slab I am still happy.

I have paid a lot of different prices for a SFRB. I didn't want to offer him the lowest range, but I didn't want to over pay, either. I think we are both happy with the deal we settled on. I figured something like what Roy said and considered that at least one small one was a fairly high ticket piece. Small, but nice. Then I got free shipping. So, it's all good.

You guys BUY rocks? I'm swimmin in em Your sign doesn't help much, but are you really asking if folks buy rocks? If that wasn't the case, Quartzsite, Tucson, and any other venues wouldn't exist. I pick stuff up in the desert (in CA). If you can tell me how I can get Botswana Agates and material from other areas without paying for it, I'd love to see your ideas. Not everyone is focused on Mojave Desert material. Dave

I agree with Dave. In Michigan we are really limited on materials. I have sold and traded Petoskey stones and pudding stones to get Agates and Jasper's to feed my addiction. I'm moving the the Southwest shortly so I can roam the desert finding new materials to sell and trade. Bottom line is we try to pay a fair price for what we want and what we believe our customers may want. The world is a big place and here are lots of wonderful rocks we all want but it may cost a little or it may cost a lot, but either way you slab it, it is gonna cost you something lol. But everyone loves a deal in the end also.

Sorry adave I dont know about the things you speak of Call me stupid Not a case of being stupid, but my entire point was that, depending on one's interests, sometimes rocks need to be purchased. That's all...all is good. Dave

Oh and yes I am psycho lol, I will be roaming the desert shortly, now if your swimming in material, that is a pool I would love to have a dip in. No diving board needed lol. Like Dave said, you do what is needed to further your hobby, passion,or satisfy your clientele. We all want the beauty of the rocks to tell our story in the end. Frank
