That is scary stuff. To make matters worse we have a bunch of nuts around here that are taunting police by exercising the open carry laws. My wife goes to community college and just a few months ago had a guy walking around on campus in full camo with a rifle slung on his back. The guy had a friend with him video taping the campus police reaction. Needless to say I got the call from her in a panic because they were in full lockdown and pushing furniture in front of the doors where they were stuck for over three hours in fear. They have done it in outdoor shopping malls and at a local high school too. Last year we had two guys put on tactical gear and black masks and walk into a local police station with their guns while video taping the whole thing.

Now-a-days, any public gathering is a target. I work in the entertainment business and am constantly working in large crowds. Am always making escape plans in these situations. If close enough I would even consider taking on the person causing the problem.

People walk around our town at times with At-15's. It hasn't been a big deal. Just got back from martial arts class with my son and several of the dads and moms were comparing pistols in the bleachers. The plate carrier is strange, seems if that dude was serious about firing some shots he would have when the police showed up. Unless he's one of those loonies that targets gun free zones.

Chuck Yeah it's an interesting point - a group of guys did that here a few years ago. They walked in Starbucks as a protest to exercise their right to open carry, and it led to a government knee-jerk reaction and a loss of those rights. There was a lot of commentary on the article I posted that basically said similar "what laws were broken?" It's a great question and I wasn't there to see if the person's actions were in and of themselves threatening but what if the guy had just finished a day at tactical training and was just walking from his vehicle to his apartment? My first question would be why no carrying case and why run if you weren't doing anything wrong? Common sense would beg to know what the person was thinking in that circumstance - I can see being startled by suddenly being surrounded by cops but I would have already had that potential situation in mind when I exited the vehicle with an uncovered gun. I typically don't bring our AR with us camping but I do bring a hard-case enclosed Baretta handgun, and a soft-case enclosed pling-pling .22 rifle, and I can barely get out the front door before my mind is racing and I'm looking around for anyone who might get scared and call the cops on me. If they did come I certainly would comply and not run.

They do nothing and some innocent people get killed then they are going to be blamed. They over react and an arrest them or harass them and they get blamed. This year we have had some large black bears in the area we rock hunt so I did open carry my pistol but that is common out in the woods. There is a time and a place for everything. Chuck

That sort of thing is why I am not a fan of open carry even though it's Texas legal. Folks simply do no know what to think. Is it a bad guy intent on doing harm or is it a goofy pro gunner trying to make some kind of point? Makes it hard on the police too. They get a bunch of calls from panicked people. Is it someone they need to worry about shooting or someone they need to approach and talk to? Threat of a gunfight or no threat at all? Just seems a dumbass move to me. If folks don't see your gun they don't get all nervous and call the cops and bad guys don't know who is armed and who is not, which give the good guys the advantage of surprise....Mel

Well they never found the guy - I drove by the apartments today and mostly things seem normal except for a local news crew doing the story and what looked like a single police car in the back parking lot. The back of the apartment complex has what looks like a six foot fence so the dude either ran and jumped over the fence into a neighborhood of older houses OR he ran inside one of the apartments and they haven't weeded him out yet. I'm betting on the latter scenario because if he was walking towards the theater to do harm I guarantee you he didn't scale that fence on the way through. I think they would have caught him if he had scaled that fence.

When I go shooting I feel like I need to sneak the firearms out to the car and back into the house. Too bad so many have been brainwashed into a hysterical fear of guns by the government/media complex.
