Anyone know what this is? I found it at Kitty Miller Bay on Phillip Island at Christmas time. I posted it on the Oz forums but thought that I would cast me query more widely. It is: just over 3cm long and 1cm high. is very light and feels almost plastic (its not plastic). It doesn't look or feel like glass. Someone suggest coral. Under my loupe it looks like it has tiny white grains in it- not many though. It leaves a faint brown/black streak on white paper. First up I though that it was Jet. This was not based on any fact other than I had seen Jet in Whitby and this looked similar ( hadn't handled it though). I am not sure if Jet is even found on Phillip Island. Any opinions would be most welcome and much appreciated.

Looks like burnt plastic material they used in factories close to the ocean shores, it gets tumbled for a few years (in the waters), than beached... I have a few pieces of it...

Try heating it with a lighter and see if it gives off a plastic or resinous smell.
