Subduction is the geologic term for continents overriding ocean plates. This morning I woke up wondering if continents ever moved off of previously subducted plates and what was that process named? Subtract - add? I tried adducted. Good try, but BEEP! After a log search through worthless sites promising the antonym I finally found: OBDUCTION Nope. still not there. The literature tells of 3 plate boundaries: Convergent, Divergent, and Transform. So apparently the subducted plate (after creating volcanoes) remains permanently attached, lifting up the above mass. The term "obduction" was coined in 1971 by Bob Coleman. Perhaps you would like to show off by purchasing a copy at Amazon? What does obducted terrain look like? Ordovician ophiolite in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland.

That a nice reduction of a complicated foreduction I think I made that word up…remostlty
was techtonicing my plates this morning trying to make breakfast
Time to do my jumping jacks Add up-- sub down
Geez there only 3 copies left of “Ophiolite & Evolution of Geo,,,” I better hurry before the price foreducts Supply & demands and all
Foreduction according to mohs Making a thing larger But trying not to make a mountain out of molehill Mostly

I did some hiking out on the Oregon coast last summer, and saw some very interesting geology. If you google Oswald west state park and scroll through the pictures, you will see some interesting things were shorty beach backs up to the cliff face behind it. I assume it must be were the Yellowstone Hot spot started moving inland with the Subduction a few million years ago. You can see several different angles of the uplifted layers that appear to be interspersed by ancient ash were they must have been parted by a caldera or volcano.

For instance, if your hand were to obduct itself to my burrito plate, you would find that I give a fork about such things.
