Hi,
i just got myself a tumbler a Lortone 3a and today I went down to my local river to find some stones to try it out.
I live in Perth Western AUstralia and from what I read there isn’t much locally in the way of really cool rocks but I found a few I liked.
My question is what are they? I think they are Form of Quartz but I am only really used to seeing the big pure white quartz so not too sure.
Really enjoyed actually looking at the stones rather than just walking on them

I see some jasper, chert and quartz. Thank you for that. Is the chert in the top right? I assume that will fall apart in the tumbler? Sorry for my ignorance. (Early days)

The gray, black and red one, towards the middle, looks like chert. It has a mohs of about 7, same as jasper, so should tumble fine. It may break along any fractures present, depending on how rough the tumble is.

Some of these look quite promising. Keep on eye on them and frequently check for breakage until you get a feel of what will hold together and take a shine.

Thanks all, Checked on them this morning and the colors are improving. All seemed to be intact and no breakage yet.

When you get done tumbling you may find the really small stones have worn down to practically nothing. If so they are leaverite.
