Here is my first batch that I was able to achieve that wet look shine like James always achieves. Thanks James for the tip about the extra step of 1000. I don't think these would have come out as well without it. These ran for: 4 weeks in 60/90 7 days in 120/220 11 days in 600 7 days in 1000 14 days in aluminum oxide...... yeah aluminum Those rocks at the top of this photo are the reason I ran these so long in course. The silly things kept breaking apart on me. I kept thinking that eventually they would stop, but they never did. I finally got tired of waiting and moved them on with the others. Otter

Those came out great!!! I'm glad to have been of help. If you want to cut the polishing time, use titanium oxide next time. Great job again!

Those are great looking stones. Sounds like they really tested your patience with that 60/90 step. I have to go along with you on that addition of the 1000 grit. With that additional step and the use of Titanium Oxide, I have not been disappointed yet. Thanks to James experimentation. It makes a big difference. You done good there ;D

Wow Otter! That is a great looking batch of Garnets, super job on them. What a shine, I think you guys are onto something with the 1000 grit. Cheers, Don

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I am truly pleased with this batch. They really do look like little gems! James, I used the aluminum oxide on purpose. I was terribly disappointed with the results I received the last time I used it and I wanted to see what kind of a shine I could receive using it with the extra 1000 step. As for the extra week, well it really wasn't that big of a deal. I'm finding it difficult to keep up with the 5 barrels I have rolling. In fact some of my stones have ended up staying in a stage longer than they really needed to because I didn't have time to check them. You know what really made me feel good about this batch is what my 8-year old daughter had to say. We had company here the day I took these out of polish. So I laid them out on a piece of paper towel to dry and for everyone to look at. Several hours later my daughter comes walking into the kitchen and says to me, "Mommy your rocks are still wet!" to which I replied "No honey they are not".
