I was wonder If I need to visit a head "shrink".........lol
Ever since I started using a Vibe tumbler for the majority of my work, I've been having these "callings" of urgency in the middle of the night. Can't call them "nightmares" since they leave no sense of fear or anxiety......just "get your butt out of bed" and check me awakenings.
Since I cannot hear what's going on in the shop from inside the house and the vibe is not all that noisy (except when needing attention), I'm sure it's not the noise the awkens me...........never had this happen when using rotory, even in the beginning....slept like a rock.
Now, I must say that a few times it was a good thing, especially after I have started a new batch in the evening, went to bed early after a few 2hr look-see's........If I hadn't checked, would have gotten up in the morning to a "rattle trap" and a pretty messed up mix. That has happened to me only once.........maybe that image left an ever lasting impression....!
Anyway, just wonder if anyone has had that experience.........Maybe I need to palm rub one of my Unakite stones before I go to bed.....!

When I started using a vibe, I had it indoors and could hear it constantly. Sometimes, as I was drifting off to La-La land, I could swear I heard a rock break in the batch, and being fearful it would screw up the rest of the batch, I found myself getting up @ all hours and doing clean outs in the wee hours. Eventually the novelty wore off and I found a different location for the vibe so as to get a good night's rest.

Did a 12th hour rinse+recharge (120/200 stage) in my Lot-O last night shortly before going to bed and added extra water just before turning in.
Woke up around 4:30 this morning (not all that unusual for me) thinking I should check the vibe before making coffee. When I checked, the cap was off and on the floor. Stones were completely dry and not moving.
Premonition? Message from the Spirit World? Coincidence? Stones calling for help?

I don't know what supernatural forces got you out of bed, but I can help with the situation. I have simply forgotten to put the cap on a couple of times and then found the rocks dry and not moving. I slowly squirted water until they got moving again and there was no harm done. I don't recommend letting them dry out, but in my experience, it doesn't hurt anything. I do also take the time to scrape the ceramic off the sides of the barrel with my finger while it's running. I can only get down so deep, but I do like to get them mixed in with everything else. To avoid having the cap fall off, I tied three large rubber bands together. I hook one end on the knob on the bottom of the barrel, the up and over the top and back on the knob from the other side.

Thanks, Jugglerguy . Yep. I just slowly added water until things got going again. It was obvious that the lid came off very early in the cycle (dried on grit but no dried mud), so I'm timing things as if I'd started the cycle this morning. If it happens again, I'll try the rubber band thing. I overfilled the bowl, so I think a large stone hit the cap and knocked it loose.

I just use a thin strip of duct tape over the top to each side. Has held the top on fine. I got snapped on the wrist when the rubber band broke while trying Rob's trick.

Then I vowed to never, never, never let it happen again. Especially since I had no more rubber bands. I can't just put 'rubber bands' on my class's school supply list and pilfer as many as I need.

Yes, I have a nearly endless supply of rubber bands. So far no one has asked why a math teacher needs such a huge rubber band supply.
