Here are my pics of the peridot I tumbled. Sorry it took so long to get them up. I ran these for: 20 days in 60/90 with about 1 1/2 tablespoons of grit recharging about every 7 days. 9 days in 120/220 with 1 1/2 tablespoons of grit 13 days in 600 with 1 1/2 tablespoons of grit ( no particular reason why these ran this long in this stage, other than I just didn't have time to get back to them) 7 days in 1000 with 1 1/2 tablespoons of grit 7 days in tin oxide polish with 1 1/2 tablespoons of grit Hope you all enjoy these pics as much as I did. Those are awsome! I really believe in that 1000 grit step you dropped in there. What a work of patience, and it sure looks like it paid off...Beautiful!! Those stones are so small they just look like green jewels. Where did you find them in a quantity large enough to do a whole load? I did some with my Amethyst and I ended up with bits of green rice before I pulled them out. Those are really terrifiic; super job!!

Thanks for the kind words all. These really did turn out into little gems. If I'm not mistaken I bought these from facetit.com. I checked their website this morning and I'm pretty sure that is where I got it from. Silly me, I haven't been writing down where I've been buying my rough from. Anyway, they sell facet grade material and in the case of the peridot it was the only way I could find it. The cost is kinda steep compared to some of the other rough I have bought, but I felt like it was worth it. It is really nice stuff. As you can see in the 2nd pic, the stone by George's nose is clean. More than 1/2 of them are that way. I have even looked at them through my 10x jewelers loupe and have found no flaws. If a person were inclined to they could indeed facet these, although the finished stone would be rather small. I don't intend to facet any at this point, however, I do want to make some jewelry from some of them. I think if I picked through them I could find some with the right shape and size to fit into those snap-in castings. They would also make pretty wire wrap jewelry and also a freeform bead type necklace. The trick would be to try to drill a hole in them without shattering them. They are small and it may take some work. But I figure I have plenty to try because this batch is only half of what I have. I purchased 3 lbs to put into my 3 lb Lortone, but changed my mind and decided to do only 1/2 of them in a 1.5 just in case I screwed them up. Otter

On some things I think a natural tumbled form is better than faceted. Tami

I agree Tami, but you have to admit that with the clarity of those beauties, faceting would really make them fire up with light. They are beautiful just as they are though.

Beautifully Done!
I was wondering were you got the rough. I can only find it advertised as a faceting rough. Would that still work? My daughter was born last week and her birthstone is peridot, and I wanted to tumble a batch.
Thanks,
Scott

those are absolutely STUNNING, Otter! it looks like way more than just a pound and a half...maybe because the are so small? how large was the rough? they really do look amazing....
let us know what you make out of those. i'd have a go at trying to drill them!
