I have always used straight water with my trim saw. Some one said to use a lubricant in the water. I have seen it for sale somewhere, but am wondering what it is. Is there some common off the shelf material?

yes it's what I have in mind, but a cheap home made alternative like pH down instead of Sparex or roach killer intead of branded borax.

I was just using them as an example of things I use in place of the branded products. pH down I use for pickle, and coat my silver before soldering with the roach (boric acid) killer mixed with denatured alcohol.

I use both of those for the same purpose. Us McGyver types need to spread the word! Lynn

toiv0 I am not sure what you consider cheap but I use the Napa water soluble(a misnomer actually an emulsion) cutting/machining /tapping oils you dilute it to what ever ratio you desire. I use 10:1 in my slab saw and I like 20:1 in my trim saw. The only draw back is it makes the solution milky. I use the Napa brand because I can get it locally about 30$ a gallon which will make 10 or 20 gallons at my ratios $3-$1.50 a gallon.

Hey Billy, I normally also just use water in my trim saw, but have used 20 mule teaam borax as an additive in my tile saw water when slabbing. It seems to soften the water a bit.
