Its Australian opal more then likely from the Coober pedy area. Nice score. If you hold them close to a light source almost touching it you should be able to check for cracks to avoid before cutting.

Agreed. Australian from Coober Pedy probably. You did good! There's some nice looking color bars in those stones. Opal is notoriously difficult to photograph. Probably the best way I know of is to shoot the rough in water. For some reason that helps to show the color when taking pictures.

Very good! Some of them look like they have decent color bars. I'm sure that they're even better than your pictures. Do you also make doublets?

Thanks everyone for the information and comments! As far as my plans, I think I'll do a bit of homework before I screw them up decide to play with them.. heh opalpyrexia I have done a couple plume agate doublets in the past, and cabbed a few boulder opals way back when. This will be something exciting and new
