Here is a small jar of opals that was part of a CL score from a couple weeks back.

I'm thinking Australian but I'm not sure (any thoughts?)

So try as I might, I could not get very good pictures in direct sun. Kinda frustrating. There's lots of fire and they look a lot better in person

Nice score. If you hold them close to a light source almost touching it you should be able to check for cracks to avoid before cutting.

Agreed. Australian from Coober Pedy probably. You did good! There's some nice looking color bars in those stones. Opal is notoriously difficult to photograph. Probably the best way I know of is to shoot the rough in water. For some reason that helps to show the color when taking pictures.

As far as my plans, I think I'll do a bit of homework before I ~~screw them up~~ decide to play with them.. heh

opalpyrexia I have done a couple plume agate doublets in the past, and cabbed a few boulder opals way back when.

This will be something exciting and new
