Never realized how huge the barrel is. Feels great to be able to tumble so much rough and finally be able to get all my harder stuff down to rounded cobbles. My small HF 3lbers are good and fast for obsidian and glass, but agates and Jasper’s are no bueno in the HF tumblers. Day 1 Edit: here are the starting pics and rough flic.kr/p/22n8cM5flic.kr/p/22n8cMLflic.kr/p/23L2pKV

Congrats! I have the same tumbler but in the 6/6 configuration and I don't use it much anymore but I remember the feeling when I first upgraded from a toy 1-lb tumbler.

A good choice in my opinion broseph82. I have 2 QT66/12 units. One has a dedicated 12 lb barrel, while the other has two 6 lb barrels. Glenn

Nice choice. The lortone 12 pound tumblers are the main weapon in my rotary stage one arsenal. The smaller barrels still get used for some specialty tumbles that requires small batches and delicate action but all of my stage one is done in the larger barrels. 5 years of using nothing but Lortones 24-7 and not one leak, blowout or breakdown yet.

Chuck Yeah I didnt just jump the gun an buy something I didnt know anything about. Ive been reading for a while and then finally found one at a decent used price. Rockshed didnt have any so I went elsewhere to compare and eBay sealed the deal. I had always thought 1Tbsp of grit per lb of rock until I saw folks are using 1.25-1.5cups of grit for the 12lb. Good thing because I need to put a dent in the 50lb bag of 60/90 I bought years ago when it was on sale at Kingsley Nor. Cant wait to see what this baby can do. I do have a nice load of agates and jaspers. My Viking 14lb vibe will round off edges and throw a nice shine on rocks, but it eats through grit in 12hrs AND not supposed to put anything lower than 120 in it as it will supposedly eat the hopper lining.

Congrats! Let us know when you spring for the 40 pounder! ;-)
I went 3, 6, 12, Lot-O-Tumbler, 40. Took about 5 years to amass the full arsenal. (Gave a Gyrock away, along thr way) Cheers!

Yeah I looked at the 40lb but that’ll be in the future if I buy anymore big lots. Right now I probably only have 3-4 loads worth of broken slabs and bits I haven’t used for anything in years. Then once they’re all done I’ll have to figure out what to do with all the polished stoned besides leaving them in bowels and vases all over the house. I do have a bunch of clear and weird shaped Montana’s that’ll be going in at sometime just because I don’t want to cut the blah pieces.

I used to live in an area that was a rock-hounder's heaven, so the 40 pounder was often busy. It occurs to me, it's going to slow down a lot once I send a few of the back-logged loads through. I'm afraid I give away a lot of rocks. Especially to kids. Even so, I'm very familiar with the bowls-around-the-house!

After 3 days Rolling the rocks went from above the water line to almost all below. Used over a cup of 60/90. Can’t wait to check on day 14

That beast can break down the course grit. Throw in a handful of clay kitty litter and you can do 4-5 day cleanouts. Grit is gone by that time.

I’m considering it.... but I still have this 50# bag of 60/90 to work through that I bought years ago. I don’t mind a few more days of rough grinding to make some dents in this large bag. After this though, I’ll def go courser to knock the agates down quicker!

I've had a QT66 for a year now, even have a 3rd barrel for the final polish stage. Always wanted a 12 pound barrel to do big quantities occasionally, but I already have too much capacity and the polished rocks are starting to build up. After all, this is just supposed to be a fun hobby without any end-game in the plan. Thinking about making Stepping Stones with my polished rocks now. May possibly even sell the 3A within a year.

Wednesday will be 2 weeks rolling and will just reload some 60/90. The rocks are all below water level now. I checked on em Saturday and could barely feel any grit. I figure by day 14 all the grit will be broken down. There’s something In the mix that sure is stinky
