Not to mention that, despite claims by many sellers to the contrary, Sleeping Beauty turquoise does get treated/stabilized. I have a difficult time believing that all the Sleeping Beauty turquoise on sites like ebay with the "No Treatment" box checkmarked are not stabilized, impregnated with resin, etc. Much of it may already have a high plastic content, backed or not.

It's a common practice. The hope is that the seller takes the backing % into account when pricing the stone.
I really prefer stabilized turquoise. It won't bust up on you when cabbing, won't absorb oils and junk and will maintain it's color forever. Plus, it's more affordable than the highly overpriced "gem" unstabilized turquoise that everyone fawns over in turquoise circles. Dyed stones are another matter though.

Also, that black matrix on those "sleeping beauty" cabs is color added. SB does not have a black matrix. I've handled lbs of the rough and the matrix is light gray if there is any at all.

At $15/gram, I doubt he subtracted for epoxy. I would never buy from a seller such as this.
