Just wondering if anyone has had experience with this material........got 3lbs of the larger size from the Rock Shed........price got my attention.
It's in pretty good condition (considering).......planning on cutting it up into 1" pieces and giving it a tumble......any thoughts about care or concerns....?
Thanks..!

From what others have told me, cut off bad spots if you can, I think MsAli has used a dremel to grind material for tumbling before? Give it a solid month or two in coarse grit, that should about get you started. As I said though, your material looks really good, so maybe do a full rinse to check on it after 2 or 3 weeks.

pizzano I did some of Rochshed's Mozambique agate last year. Looks like you got a lot of the waterline. Like the red/blue stuff better myself. Like a lot of agates it is tough and takes a long time to completely round off. 8 to 12 weeks in coarse for me. I did nothing special with them and liked how they turned out. Here is a link to some pics if you care to look. flic.kr/s/aHsm4SaLGp

Thanks for the reply.......I intend to spend some time working them over with cut-off saw and Dremel before rotary grind. 1" pieces are my goal, the rough averages 2.5" to 3", so if I can manage two cleaned stones per ea. rough, it will be a good start.
I generally tumble all agate 60/80-90 two to three weeks.....have no patients for fully rounded stones.....lol

I generally give agate a rotary bashing for 2 to 3 weeks, recharging each 7 days.........then pull out the material and give them a once over with the Dremel or saw. Then back into the rotary for another 60/80-90 cycle........I've started making frig magnets, like to have a flat side to work with attaching the magnet......and I don't have the patients to wait around 2 to 3 months (as long as my end results shine like ice after vibe cycles)......I really admire you guys who can wait that long, I only run 2 small rotary's and 1 small vibe.......It's hard enough for me to wait when I've got all three humming at the same time and on the same cycle stages.........lol
Thanks again.....really like your end results...!

Patience is a virtue- not something I really have so I started learning how to make Cabs while waiting for my tumbles. The longer the time, the more it pays off, especially for those agates

It's funny, I have patients (not those of a Saint) when it comes to teaching (coaching), my work (I'm an Engineer/Surveyor), music (I'm also a musician), my wife/kids and cooking.......but some of my hobbies just poke at me so hard I cannot seem to neglect their attention......lol......especially this lapidary thing. It's just the way I'm wired.
I do spend my "off" hours with prepping the stones for the next event......does help with giving them "attention" they cry out for.......lol....and keeps me busy not worrying about the time it is taking for each cycle.........just try to fit it in with all of the "life" cycles spinning around my world...!
