hey billy looks like you had a fun day hunting i swear one of these days im goin on a trip somewear wit good rocks and when i get there im gonna take two or three back pills and go find me some,, just so i can say i did it hahahaha nice find--seeya --john

great find! how did you break those up so (seemingly) uniformly? i always suffer a lot of wastage when i try breaking rock up with the hammer...any tricks to it?

hey KD I just brock them up with my hammer but Im going to cut some with a rock saw I thank they will be real pretty when I get them polished

Billy, those are Yummy. Like Sandman, I can't imagine beeing some where that I could just look down and find cool rocks. KD, I get alot of waste too trying to get the right size pieces. My last Tree agate I gave up on the last big piece, it was just splintering. Plus I broke my hammer. cookie

KD, you probably already do this, but just in case not...try to find the natural planes of weakness in a stone (sometimes obvious, often guesswork, and sometimes they just don't exist). Use a rock chisel to direct the force of the hammer right into the plane of weakness. It helps to keep your chisel reasonably sharp (easily sharpened on a grindstone) in order to maximize the force of the hammer into the smallest possible area of the rock. If a rock doesn't give where you think it should, try a different spot to see if it will yield somewhere else. Keep breaking the pieces up until they end up the size you want. Try to not make them too uniform, because a mixed-size load will tumble better than a uniform load.
