Just picked up a used Hilti DD 130 core drilling rig, which came with a 6 inch diameter coring bit. Hot the whole rig for just over $500. Now I have a date with a chunk of graveyard point plume. Muhahaha.

Oh my. Can that be set up to drill horizontally? I have a tankless water heater and new furnace that I need to vent through my 12" thick stone walls. I was planning on chiseling out stones and mortaring back in around the flues. That thing would be the cat's.... meow. I better visit the rental yard.

Has a vacuum base to assist with anchoring. And bit is 16 inches so it would punch through with no problem.

And home depot here in central texas rents them for roughly $130 a day. Rather reasonable considering how expensive they are. Darn things are $2500+ new.

Wow. Thanks for the heads-up! Rental is a lot of money, but well worth it compared to my original plan. Congrats on the nice score!

So, how well did it core the GYP? Fast, Slow? Drill has 3 speeds, and due to weather having to wait till Saturday to drill it. Also need to secure it to something which I have not figured out if going to try the vacuum base on a slab of countertop or put some anchors in the ground ( I live on a huge chunk of limestone). Many options, Saturday I'll have more info.

Bear in mind the concrete core drill may not handle agate well. MK custom makes soft matrix core drills for hard rock but make multiple versions for their Manta drills (green concrete, cured concrete, concrete w/ rebar, etc.). Same diamond, matrix varies with intended target material.

The customer service rep for the house tract builder where I used to live had one. It was rolling hills so lots were graded with swales for drainage. Everyone pretty much leveled their lots and ran drain pipes to street. This guy made quite a bit of money drilling holes through curbs for the home owners to run their drains. Easily paid for drill and used the extra money to support his deep sea fishing habit.

I remain curious. I'm hoping the drill actually works on hard stuff, if not, ouchy $$$.
