I remain curious. I'm hoping the drill actually works on hard stuff, if not, ouchy $$$. Life has been in the way, been trying to finish up the house before the new year. However if it drills through rebar and concrete, I'm rather certain that granite and the such pose no threat.

5 bills for a tool that you can sell for about twice as much? No ouch there.

I have yet to find a bit that cuts agate/jasper. Granite, marble, anything else, yes. Agate nope.

Lucky? For me I have absolutely no access to a 8 inch, bot even 6inch pieces of agate or jasper. However, my diamond hole saws I use in sphere machine cut anything, including the hardest of agates.

If a HP sphere machine he does use cups that look like core drills but guessing he has them made for hard rock. He started out cutting and selling spheres at club shows in Texas. He always bragged on his high speed sphere machine. He started selling the cups at the shows and later machines and now of course the HP copies and Lortone knock offs.

Nope, mine is a homemade job, slow going 50 RPM gearmotors. I will experiment with higher speeds later once I get machine 2 and 3 built. Once I get the box put around the lathe to help with the dust, my preforms will be much better. Cabin is nearing completion, so I will be able to get back on lapidary, or as I call mine "the De-lapidary" due to state of my shop. Thanks for this awesome feedback people. I appreciate all info, especially since I have been in this hobby for exactly one year! Lol. Oh, if I had only known... yeah, still wouldn't trade it for the world. Great people, great experience.

I have heard of several sphere launches with high speed HP unit so be careful.

I have heard of several sphere launches with high speed HP unit so be careful. Yeah, I have had a few low speed launches due to my crappy preforms jobs. That nice metal on metal grinding sound is so soothing, If you are a tool salesman. I am experimenting with an interlock system that is it senses contact between the heads (electrically) that acts pretty much like an EMO and shuts it down. Back to speed, I think up to 200 rpm is fine with tooling I have, however any further and I fear the chinesium will show it's true colors.

Change the angles of the shafts so they point down. With your current method of pointing up, the slurry will run down the shaft and destroy the bushings or bearing.

In my own experience the slurry drips off the bottom corner of the cup. I see no path for the slurry to go uphill to a shaft. At least in the machines I have run.
