Okay, because some of you asked so kindly, I'm posting a pic of a load of mahogany obsidian I finished recently. I'm not 100% satisfied because of the dried polish in the cracks and crevices, so these are subject to being tumbled again for further smoothing. I did like the color, and I noticed some silver sheen even showed in the pic (lower left). Click on pic for larger view.

Those "little" guys have a nice shine........ever noticed that smaller stones seem to take a shine faster and deeper than the bigger sister & brothers of the same material.......?......there must be a clue there someplace...!

Being that they were vibe polished, do you reckon the action is more "lively" due to less weight and surface area. I have noticed exactly what you mentioned, just hadn't pondered the why of it.

Well done, this stuff is tough to work with. I finished a batch last night, Lot O, satisfied overall but a couple got dinged. Mine was mix of Black and Mahogany, I like how some is more gray, some striped etc. I'm a big fan of Obsidian, it was my third batch, my wife said that's enough "move on".

You know, it's funny, This load didn't give me too many fits, but I do wish I would have run the stage 1 grind a little longer. There are small crevices in most of them, and I dropped the ball when it came time to clean them up. I think on my next load of obsidian, I'm going to run them 3 or 4 days in 60/90 sic, then move them to 120/220 sic. I've got relatively large pieces to work with this time, so I can do a thorough grind and still have some decent pieces when they're done.
