Howdy All- Found this unit online with some other stuff, but it needs a hood. I realize it's a long shot, but thought this the best place to ponder Anyone out there know of it's sibling, that maybe is too much work to rehab? If the price is right, I could work out a deal. Anyone?]

I have its sibling, but it is running as of yet. The entire chassis is made out of "pot metal" (probably not aluminum) and I managed to break one ear off of the bearing yoke. Be careful if you have to remove the shaft to change those middle wheels. I have repaired it, but only time will tell if my repair will hold. All of this to say, if you need a good photo of the top, I'll comply. It should be possible to fabricate if you are not into beauty or perfection.

interesting I have the 8" model and was thinking probably cast aluminum but I really hadn't thought about pot metal I'll have to test it now. I know that the hood casting is pretty brittle chipped off a thin edge myself. I think Barranca diamond or Diamond pacific bought them out but a NOS is probably pretty pricey if you can get one and I'll bet used hoods only are rare to none. You could probably take it to a sheet metal place and have them fabricate a pretty nice one or DIY.

I'll get a couple of photos sent soon. Can you send an email in a PM so they can be sent direct. A sheet metal version is probably doable but certainly lower on the charisma scale.

Sheet metal would work fine. Look at Barranca Diamond website for pictures of how they use sheet metal hoods on their GP8 or pretty much all their cabbers. They use a piano hinge in back so the entire hood hinges out of way to access wheels, etc. Diamond Pacific bought Beacon Star but as far as I know they only make 10" and 6" Beacon Star saws and maybe the arbor. They may have sold off different lines as they went under or out.

Here's what the hood should look like. I'll send more directly to the OP.
